What’s Happening in Development – Project Oasis Eliminating Food Desert in North Tulsa
This is an exciting time for the North Tulsa Community to finally put an end to the food desert stigma. The anticipation of a long-awaited grocery store is over, and residents can now look forward to having access to high quality and nutritious foods, as well as shop in their own community. This development is approximately 16,425 sq. ft., with convenient parking, that will contain a variety of foods including meat, produce, dairy departments, a demonstration kitchen that will be used to educate customers on how to prepare affordable and healthy meals, as well as a multipurpose room. This grocery store will not only allow access to healthier food options but will also provide jobs and the opportunity for residents to work and live in the community. With the relentless determination of Rose Washington, CEO Tulsa Economic Development Corp., to eliminate food deserts within North Tulsa is now a reality. She worked tirelessly with District 1 City Councilor Vanessa Hall-Harper and partnered with other entities including Tulsa Development Authority to bring about change that will impact the lives of North Tulsans. This development is located at the Shoppes at Peoria and is scheduled to have a hiring event on March 16, 2021. To read a past article on Project Oasis click here.
